This goldwork butterfly, inspired by a Japanese family crest, features wired detached wings, as well as traditional goldwork techniques. Using a variety of gold and silk threads, gold kid and beads, this small embroidered medallion may be worked on cream silk or satin or the fabric of your choice. I used a scrap of old kimono silk. The finished panel may be framed, mounted into a gilt bowl or made into a brooch.
