This goldwork butterfly was inspired by a Japanese family crest, known as a mon. Using traditional goldwork techniques and a variety of gold and silk threads, gold kid and beads, this small embroidered medallion may be worked on cream silk or satin or the fabric of your choice. I used a scrap of old kimono silk. The finished panel may be framed, mounted into a gilt bowl or paperweight, or made into a brooch.
