This small stumpwork panel was inspired by the illuminated pages of medieval manuscripts. Embroidered on a background of ivory satin, this design features the Snodrop, Galanthus nivalis, a winter-flowering bulb, with detached petals and wrapped-wire stem. Nestled amongst the foliage are a Black-and-yellow Cranefly, Nephrotoma maculosa, with gauzy detached qwings and extraordinarily long legs, and a Scarlet Tiger Moth, Callimorpha dominula, with silk embroidered raised wings. The panel is enclosed by an ornate border, worked in silk ribbon, gold thread and beads.
