Leather

Prompted by many requests for the leathers required to work stumpwork beetles, we have put together packs of assorted leathers suitable for use not only in stumpwork but also goldwork and surface embroidery.

These leathers are suitable for stitching by hand - my preference being with nylon thread in a size 12 or 11 Sharps needle.  I find that by using nylon thread in such a small needle, that the stitches are barely noticeable, however, a thimble is essential!

We have assembled eight Assorted Leather Packs, each containing four 5 cm squares of leather related by colour, texture or purpose (a five cm square of leather is enough to work the elytra/wing casings of at least four beetles). Some of these leathers are also available as 10 cm squares in packs.

As well as the Assorted Leather Packs, we have also packaged 10 cm squares of the beautiful gold kid sourced from Benton & Johnson.

Note: All the leathers used in the stumpwork beetle specimen box, featured in The Stumpwork, Goldwork and Surface Embroidery Beetle Collection, are available in leather packs 1, 2 and 3.
