This elegant tile features a slightly enlarged version of the iris from the Syrian Pomegranate Tile.
Combining goldwork and surface embroidery techniques, this rectangular panel is worked on a dark cream silk background with silks, gold metallic threads and beads. The design comprises a stylised iris flower and buds, enclosed by an ogival border worked in beads, gimp and gold metallic threads.
As I wished to use this panel as a book cover, the lower petals of the iris have been embroidered on the silk background rather than being detached. The finished piece may also be framed or used as the front of a small evening bag.
This embroidery kit contains all materials required to work this project:
- Cream silk dupion (enough for book cover)
- tracing paper
- Stef Francis Viscose Gimp
- Beads (includes 2 whole packs) and gold pearls.
- Soie d'Alger silks
- gold metallic threads

You will also require the following equipment, which is not included in the kit:

- Crewel/Embroidery size 10
- Sharps or Straw/Milliners size 9
